If you’ve read my birth story then you’ll know that Littlebit’s arrival into this world was a tad traumatic, so I just wanted to send a big up to the midwives we had looking after us during our stays at George Eliot Hospital and Kettering General Hospital.
They really were truly awesome.
The MW’s and care staff at GEH managed to keep me calm throughout the whole experience, how I just don’t know. But it could have been so much worse if I’d got myself stressed out during the wait, or the 3 days after Littlebit was transferred and I was left 50 miles away.
The two ladies who looked after me on labour suite, Sue & Trudi were both kind and caring. I got reassuring cuddles when I needed them, a stern word if that’s what was required, hand holding when I was at my wits end with pumping breast milk and tea and toast on demand.
Likewise, the MW’s up on the Maternity Assessment Unit and the ward who I’d come across on my numerous visits post the 30 week drama, were just brilliant. Especially Tracy, who always had a reassuring smile for me. They gave me a sense that what ever was about to happen, we’d be ok.
The ladies who looked after me in Kettering when I was readmitted there for 7 further days when my BP became uncontrollable again were fantastic too. There was Kate, who on first meeting I didn’t warm to, but after a few BP checks we were laughing and joking away. Steph, who looked after me each night and would bring me hot drinks while I was hooked up to my double pump, I think it was her that named me ‘Bessie the cow’ as whenever she came in I was on the milk machine. And Helen, the SHO, who was so understanding and interested it was untrue. I was made to feel truly special by all of the Maternity staff I came across and for that I am very grateful, as I’m sure it helped me through.
I know some mummies who haven’t been nearly as so lucky as me, I think I got the best ones.
